24 Hours Recap: Built a Business? No. Wrote a 10-Word Tragedy? Yes.
From Hemingway flash fiction to B2B dead ends, here’s what I learned in a single day.
What can you really get done in 24 hours, when most of it is eaten up by a 9-to-5, sleep, and the occasional snack break?
Turns out: some wisdom about Threads, four interviews lined up, and way too much time crafting a ten-word micro-story.
Progress? Maybe. Entertaining? Absolutely. Let’s recap.
🔍 Finding a Writing Course
After some research, I found Gotham Writers — a school offering online writing courses that seem pretty legit. Tons of nonfiction classes, running often.
I also asked the Substack community for recommendations, but still waiting to hear back. So I won’t pull the trigger just yet, but I’ve got a solid lead.
Also? They’re running a micro-story contest inspired by Hemingway’s famous 6-word story:
For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.
Naturally, I had to try writing one, because I have so much free time. Here’s mine:
Drunk, homeless. Sign read: help.
She offered: “Your wine, son.”
If you want to join the contest, here’s the link.
🧵 Starting to Write on Instagram Threads
No action yet, but I had a great convo with a friend doing a “100 Days of Threads” challenge. He shared a few learnings:
It’s time-consuming but a great crash course in social media.
A fast way to test content and value props.
You need to be very active to build engagement.
High follower count doesn’t equal value, you still need to post constantly to be seen.
I realized that I shouldn’t jump into another channel without clear intention. His 100-day challenge is structured, with clear learning goals. I’ll take some time to design my own approach before I dive in aimlessly.
💡 Validating the 3 Small Business Ideas
1. Optimize subscription flows for media companies
I reached out to a few people who should know someone in this space… but no strong leads. One friend even said,
“Honestly, I don’t see any media company paying for this. They’re all just cutting costs.”
Maybe that’s the signal right there. Or maybe it’s just the B2B model being its usual self: long sales cycles (read: hard to find people), but higher ticket size.
2. Launch a print + digital magazine for writers
I posted on Substack asking if anyone wants to reply asynchronously to 4 questions. Let's see if it gets bites.
3. Career coach AI bot
Most progress here! I’ve got 4 interviews secured and early insights coming in. This one’s getting interesting...
Tomorrow night is blocked for some offline living, so I don’t expect big progress… but I’ll be back in 48 hours with more updates. See you then! 👋
